Frequently Asked Questions

Just thought this would be a good image
to stick on the page!
Since running this project I get asked a fair few questions, I'm always happy to answer peoples queries but there are a few questions which crop up more often than others. So I thought I'd do a little FAQ page!

Why did you decide to do this project?

I've always spent a lot of my free time browsing through Youtube to look up clips of TV shows from my childhood. As well as classic adverts and continuity, stuff like that. It just always fascinates me and I love the great memories it brings. A lot of retro nostalgia type blogs/websites/channels are dedicated to the 70's and 80's. As we head in to the 2020's the 90's and 00's are starting to become classed as a bit nostalgic now. So decided it was high time I used my knowledge and set up this blog page. Which later on became the youtube channel and the podcasts.

How do you get these ex-Kids TV stars on to your podcast and how do you find them?

The simplest answer is a very nice email, that's it. I do this purely as a hobby, I make no money from it (which doesn't bother me at all) so I email people very kindly and ask if they can spare some of their time to talk to me. Most are more than happy to. I just use good old google to contact them, most have their own websites. A few have been because someone I've previously interviewed knows them and have put in a good word for me.

Can you please do a podcast with (insert name here)

I can certainly add suggestions to the list. It just depends on whether I can find a contact for them and if they agree to it. It also depends on whether they fall in to the era I specifically look at (Early 90's-Mid 00's) and if I feel there's enough I can ask them about for a good interview.

How do you record the podcasts?

I record them at the studios of WCR FM. A radio station local to myself that I've been a volunteer at for many years. They kindly allow me to borrow their kit to record them.

You sound really good. Have you worked in radio before?

Kind of, I've been involved in radio since 2011. Most of it though has been as a hobby and voluntary, not that it should make any difference. I still take what I do seriously and make sure it sounds good! I have done some paid work reading travel news out for a few stations but that's about it. I do the Jack's Throwback Attack stuff purely as a hobby and have an ordinary day job!

Where did you get the Art Attack sweatshirt from? (The one that I wear to comic con which you can see on my Youtube/Twitter avatar)

It's not an original one (Apparently the real ones from the TV show cost £700 each as they had to be made from a specific fabric as the colour red strobes on camera) it's purely a knock off one I bought off Ebay for about £20. Plenty of people sell recreations of the famous sweatshirt online.

Who is next on your podcast?/Is (Insert name here) going to be on your podcast?

Sorry but I do not give out that information. I like to keep it a surprise and reveal the guests one by one usually a week or two before the release of the podcast. Unless you're a very close friend that I can trust to keep secrets I generally won't give this information out to anyone.

Will you trade/upload old shows?

Not really, there's a number of reasons for this. First off although I will admit to having a small collection of shows I don't have anything really special or rare. I just prefer to send and collect shows with a small number of trusted individuals who I've known a long time and believe me it's a very rare occurrence. Secondly I don't have a massive amount of free time and my upload speed is pretty dreadful. The third reason is just through bad experiences, I have uploaded content to Youtube in the past and I have been immediately inundated with requests to upload more stuff or people assuming I have an archive of everything ever broadcast. Content I have uploaded has been copied elsewhere a few times which yes although I don't own the rights the same as anyone else it's a little disheartening and in the past when doing trades I've had the same issues where I've not been left alone after and content has ended up online. That's my reasons, I just prefer to keep the Jack's Throwback Attack channel to purely my podcasts and review videos.

Can I have (Insert name here)'s contact details for my own project?

It depends on what contact details I hold or how they were obtained. If it is from a publicly available website or an agents details then sure. Some of the interviewees have been through other guests who know them personally and have asked on my behalf and a fair few have been trusting of me to have personal emails/phone numbers and I won't give these out at random. Sometimes I may be able to ask for you but I can't guarantee anything.

If I think of any other FAQ's I'll add them in due course!
